Cariboo Ashes explores the tension between rugged geographies and the fragile landscapes within. Rooted in British Columbia yet resonating far beyond, these poems navigate wildfire country, environmental reckoning, fractured families, political fault lines, desire, and the enduring pull of memory. They invite readers into a landscape where every place carries history, every absence leaves an imprint, and every ember holds the possibility of renewal.
Moving between intimate lyricism and unflinching observation, Heather Haley examines belonging, resilience, and the stories we inherit and resist. Fearless, sensual, and deeply attentive to the music of language, Cariboo Ashes reveals how grace survives fire, estrangement, and the shifting ground beneath our feet.
Heather Haley is the author of the poetry collections Sideways, Three Blocks West of Wonderland, and Skookum Raven, and the novel The Town Slut’s Daughter. A Vancouver writer, singer, and videopoetry pioneer, her work has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, and she has toured extensively across Canada, the United States, and Europe.
